Origin

Kerala, South India. A lasya (gentle, feminine) form said to evoke the celestial Mohini.

Hallmarks

  • Flowing, swaying torso (andolika) and circular footwork
  • Soft eye movements (drishti bheda) carrying the story
  • White-and-gold costume, jasmine in the hair

What to expect in class

Slow, lyrical sequences that train breath, hip articulation and gaze. Expect to feel water, wind and longing in the body.
